Deputy Minister of Culture
He was born in Piraeus in 1958. His origins are from Mykonos. He completed his studies in Piraeus and in Hermoupolis in Syros Island. He studied graphic arts (TEIA) without graduating. He obtained his degree from the Dentistry School of the University of Athens (1984). He followed postgraduate studies at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens (1999-2004).
During the ‘80s he worked as an editor. From 1987 he was working as a journalist. He has collaborated with several magazines and newspapers, as an editor, book and art critic, publishing consultant, editor- in-chief and publisher. Indicatively: Babel, Syghrona Themata, Politis, Odos Panos, Ek Paradromis, Haos, Gynaika, Tahidromos, Elle, Madame Figaro, Athinorama, Proti, 01, 902 radio station, Seven-XTV, newspaper Politis (Nicosia), Diphono, Fotografos, Enteyktirio.
He participated in the founding team of the magazine “Symptoma” of the Dental Student Interest Group (1979-1982). He joined the publishing group and directed the newspaper “Mykoniatiki” (1988-1992). Besides that he contributed as an article writer on the founding group of the newspaper “Epohi” (1988-1992).
He has been working at the newspaper “Kathimerini” since 1992. In 1999 he became the head of the cultural news department of the Sunday edition and from December 2003 he took over as editor-in-chief.
His essays and novels have been published in many books, proceedings of conferences and exhibition catalogues. He has curated the group exhibition: “All Fashioned: Painting in Greece, today” (2002, Larissa, Thessaloniki) και “Report to Gyzis” (2004, Tinos).
He has been honored by the Institution of Promotion of Journalism Athanasiou Vas. Botsi with the award of the Greek Parliament as the political journalist of the year (2009). He is a member of the Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers and member of AICA- Hellas (International Association of Art Critics- Greek Section) in 2002-2005, General Secretary of the of the Board of Directors and in 2007-2009 member of the Board.
He lives in Athens with his wife and two sons.
In 2015 he was elected in the Greek Parliament with Syriza at the 2nd election district of Athens.
